Smokey & The Bandit

Although today is the 1st of April, I am here to offer you a serious post (as opposed to last year!) about the section "movies and popular TV series" on DVD and BluRay. Specifically, today I want to show you the box set on DVD on the movie trilogy dedicated to "Smokey and the Bandit". Today, this box set is out of production (but you can still find it online on sales sites at very high price) and I had the good fortune to buy it in a Swiss motorway more or less 9/10 years ago. I think we all know the story of "The Bandit" and his legendary stunts, especially those relating to the first film. In this box set there are also the two sequels, the first ever played by Burt Reynolds, the second played by Jerry Reed (but with a lower budget since it was created as a TV movie and not for the cinema). In the pictures you can see by clicking on the images below, I showed the cardboard box containing two DVD cases (in the second case there are 2 DVD) flanked to 2 beautiful and iconic Pontiac Trans Am of 2nd generation used by the Bandit in the first and in the second movie (the first diecast model is produced by ERTL, while the second is produced by Greenlight). As always, good vision and have a nice weekend!

Dodge Charger Daytona "Furious 6" by Greenlight

I need to insert my latest purchases in the site: it will be a little bit hard because I'm late, but today I start presenting you the Dodge Charger Daytona driven by Toretto in the movie "Furious 6". This diecast model is produced by Greenlight for "Artisan Collection" series, which means excellent model from the aesthetic point of view, but with some limitations such as the lack of openings, the absence of the engine, details scarce on the bottom of the chassis and some wrong details like the gold external mirror. It must be said, however, that the model has excellent details regarding the rims, a well-proportioned body form, well detailed interiors and excellent coating, free of defects. I definitely recommend it to all the fans of the saga of "The Fast & The Furious", but only if you can buy it equal to or less than 75 Euros. If you have to spend more, choose some other more detailed model or a more noble brand.

Street Hawk: another crazy idea!

This week I was a little on the run ... the work kept me busy every day, so I managed to find a bit of free time this weekend to talk about my last strange idea! As I had done a few years ago, I came back the urge to create a model a bit more accurate of "Street Hawk", the motorkbike of the legendary TV series of the 80s, starring Rex Smith in the role of Jesse Mach. This time, I decided to do a "merge" between two existing models on the market: the usual Honda XR400R scale 1:18 produced by Maisto and a vintage toy of "Street Hawk" produced by LJN Toys in 1984. Before someone cries shame on the fact that I will modify a vintage toy (which today circulating in a few specimens) will I point out that I own two: a perfect MIB, still sealed in its original packaging and a "loose" with some signs due to the time . The idea will be to remove from the 80s toy the wheels and its forks, creating the space to accommodate the chassis of the Honda XR 400 R. As you can see from the pictures, the dimensions are pretty much perfect and a couple of more precise wheels and a new paint that will hide the flaws, this model will shine again, modernized and brought in the 2000s! You say I'm crazy? Let me know what you think and any suggestions! Have a nice weekend!

Street Hawk: let the merger begin!

Last night, after work, I found the inspiration to start working on "Street Hawk": Dremel armed I took my courage and started to "dismember" the toy version of Street Hawk and the Honda XR 400 R. I must admit that it was not difficult, partly because the plastic under the blows of the Dremel has easily give up: I safely removed the small golden wheels and their forks. Then I proceeded to remove all the unnecessary from the Honda XR 400 R, leaving only the chassis. I then started the "fusion" between the two bikes and as you can see in some images in the gallery, the combination of the two is perfect! I'm really pleased... I think this time will emerge a truly successful model! Stay tuned in the coming days because I will update with new pictures on the state of play! Enjoy with the pics!

Knight Rider Companion (2008)

Another busy week at work and so little time to modify "Street Hawk" and update the site ... However, today I want to show you a book dedicated to the world of "Knight Rider", the legendary KITT, the talking car driven by Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff). The book is titled "Knight Rider Companion" and was written by Nick Nugent some years ago: in a nutshell is the guide par excellence of this legendary '80s TV series, and it covers any topic, from the actors, to the episode summaries , from the cars used, to the products licensed toys. In short, it is definitely a book to own if you are fans of "Knight Rider": you will find them all your questions answered! Today is not easy to find it on the Internet (because it has been printed and sold in 2008) but if you happen the opportunity, do not miss it! In the gallery I took some pictures to the inside pages, just to give you an idea of the content and the quality of the book itself. To show you this book, of course, I placed the 2 versions of KITT and KARR produced by Hot Wheels Elite. Good read, good fun and good weekend!

Torino Comics (2016)

Saturday evening I received a last-minute invitation to visit the exhibition "Torino Comics" that took place during the weekend at the Lingotto Fiere in Turin. I'm not a great lover of this type of events, but at the end I accepted, and I was able to find, in addition to the thousands of cosplayers, something that could also cover the topic of this site or that it was of interest to me. At the entrance of the exhibition hall they were proudly displayed 3 cars: a Pontiac Trans Am KITT replica, a Chevrolet Camaro "Bumble Bee" replica and a Ford Mustang Mach 1 (the same as Eleanor model but with a different color). Turning then to the event, I managed to find the stand of the Ghostbusters (impossible to miss it thanks to the enormous inflatable!), the Visitors (where he was to be guest Marc Singer, but work commitments had to decline), Battlestar Galactica (where there was as a guest Kandyse McClure) and Star Trek (where there was as a guest Robert Picardo). I have not done a lot of pictures, but at the end I brought home some "memory" related to our theme of cars used in movie/TV show. In the coming days I will show you the new purchases!

New purchases from Torino Comics

Today a short article to show you quickly the "great" purchases I made at Torino Comics. I'm not a great lover of comic books, so I brought something home in a way that recalls the cars from movies and TV shows: as you can see from the picture, I bought the Ecto-1 used in Ghostbusters (with Winston Zeddemore) and the Batmobile used in 60s (with Batman) produced by Funko for the series "Pop!". As some of you will remember, a few friends/colleagues had already given me for my birthday the DeLorean from "Back to the Future" and so I will go to expand this collection. Of course, I also ordered the various characters to match the cars: Robin, Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Slimer and the Marshmallow Man! In the next days I will show you in detail every single car with its characters.

Street Hawk: merger completed!

During the last weekend I continued to work on "Street Hawk": I finished at last to empty the inside of the shell to allow me to easily position the new chassis with larger wheels. I created then with plasticard also an indoor slide attached to the body that will serve to accommodate the headlight closed or open; moreover, always with plasticard, I created a support that will keep the bike upright, since I have eliminated the stand. I then proceeded to place the two parts of the body on the frame and as you can see from the pictures, the result is excellent. I have yet to apply stucco to close the old holes on the left side and make a few shots of sandpaper (as I did on the right side to remove markings indicating the brand and the production year), then I can move on to painting (before the primer and then the flat black paint). See you soon with some other update!

R.I.P. Prince

This 2016, day after day, is taking away a lot of musical icons of my and your youth: is yesterday's news that Prince is dead, innovator of the music industry, especially during that wonderful decade were the 80s. I could cite dozens and dozens of wonderful songs recorded by Prince, but on the pages of this site I want to remember him with a song specially composed for the soundtrack of the film "Batman" in 1989. Today it is still a beautiful song and I invite you to listen it, appreciating both rhythm of the song, and the wonderful video that was played on the split between Batman-Joker. We will miss him, especially seeing the "vacuum" offered by today's musicians/singers ...

11.22.63 & Christine

A few days ago I started watching the new TV series "11.22.63", drawn from the novel written by Stephen King. Needless to say I'm liking it a lot, both for the very original story, both for the 60s atmosphere. Watching the first episode, however, I have noticed a curious appearance: being all based on the novel by Stephen King, during filming a tribute was paid to another masterpiece of the American writer, "Christine": while the main character, Jake, arrive at the square in Dallas where will be killed Kennedy in 1963, he met a young woman in a little while we direct to the car of her husband, a red '58 Plymouth Fury, identical in all respects to Christine. And from what I've read around in Internet, it will not be the only reference to the mythical infernal car. Will keep you updated and if you happen, give it an eye ... it's a great TV series!

Ghostbusters Ecto-1 by Funko

As I already told you, two weeks ago I visited the Torino Comics event: I could not leave empty-handed, so I bought some new items for my collection of Pop! characters by Funko. Today I show you the Ecto-1 of the "Ghostbusters", accompanied by the character Winston Zeddemore. Personally I find them well-made, especially the Ecto-1 and do not wait to expose them, mainly due to their odd shape and the sympathy you feel when you watch them! I am waiting to receive by mail all the other characters of "Ghostbusters" series: I hope all arrive by the end of next week, but in the meantime I'll try to introduce other purchases made at Torino Comics and update you on the progress made on my custom "Street Hawk"! Have a nice weekend!
