Comparisons Detail

Watching the models, it's easy to note the new General Lee (on the right) is more detailed: in comparison with it, the old General Lee (on the left) appears like a toy for kids! A lot of particulars has been changed by the RC2/ERTL, so the new version appears more realistic. Moreover, also the body has been changed: now, the lines and the shape are more similar to the real Charger, in fact looking the old General Lee, it appears more a little bit clumsy.

The front view is well-proportioned: RC2/ERTL has changed all this part. First of all, the old static headlights have been replaced with revolving lights, then there is a new chrome grids, a new push bar, 2 new fog lights with transparent plastic and a new lower spoiler. Moreover, you can see that the shape of the body is changed and now it's less squarely and more harmonious.

Same result for the rear view: the new General Lee has new lights, this time realized with transparent plastic, while on the old General Lee the lights are only painted with a red color on chrome parts. Moreover, on the new model, the bumper appears more thin and the exhaust pipes are now more squared and fine. The license plate has been replaced with a similar one with the same graphic, but the background color is different. As you can see, now on the trunk there is a CB antenna.

Watching the windscreen, we can see that the profiles are not only painted on the body, but the RC2/ERTL has created a fine chromed layout around the window: the final effect is impressive!! Moreover, also the windscreen wipers have been changed: the new elements looks more accurate, while the old elements looks clunky.

Also the back window has been modified, not only with the new chromed profiles, but looking at it more closely, you can see that the back window now is a little more big.

The hoods are similar on the 2 models (only on the exterior part): on the new General Lee, RC2/ERTL has modified only the little (painted) lights placed on the rounded elements.

Instead, the trunks are very different: on the old one, the trunk is binded with the rest of the body, while on the new one, the trunk can be opened: in the trunk we can find a fifth wheel and some other tools.

Watching the front mudguard, it's possible to see RC2/ERTL has modified the shape of this part: now, on the new General Lee, it's more thin and the proportions with the rest of the body are good. However, the greatest update regards the wheels: the old chromed rims have been replaced with new rims, with the correct design of the "American Vectors". At last, RC2/ERTL has changed also the lateral lights, using (in the correct position) new tampographs.

Same remark for the rear quarter: the new model has a new shape for this part. Also in this case, RC2/ERTL has changed the lateral lights, using (in the correct position) new tampographs. As you can see, the profiles around the tire cover is realized with chromed plastic: the final effect is incredibly realistic!

Watching the sides of the 2 models, it's easy to see that the new General Lee is highly detailed: the chromed profiles, the wheels and the interior help to increase the accuracy of this model. Comparing these pictures, we can also see how accurate are the chinks and the alignments around the door. After the release of the new General Lee, the old one seems a toy!!

The graphic used on the roof is identical on both models: the only difference is the color used on the "GENERAL LEE" letters. However, the dimension of these letters is not right because on the real General Lee, they are too small.

There is no match watching the engines: the new General Lee wins 10-0. The engine mounted in the old General Lee is too simple: there aren't wirings and other details (like the air filter) are not right. The engine mounted on the new General Lee is amazing: it miss only the noise!!!

A rapid view on the interior... The old General Lee is details-free: a lot of plastic pieces (too much bright) without particulars. The new General Lee has a new interior realized with a new plastic material: the result is good, especially for the presence of a lot of chrome/wood details. Moreover, the RC2/ERTL has inserted on the new General Lee the lower console (with the wood effect) and, finally, the rear seat.

Observing these pictures, we can see the perfect integration of the new chromed profiles with the deflectors. On the old General Lee, there is a great difference between the deflectors and the window profiles (only painted on the body).

Watching these images, we can see the differences between the 2 dashboards: the old one is too simple, without details; the new one is more detailed, with the air grills on the top, like the real Charger.

The last pictures to show you the rear seat inserted in the new General Lee; the old one hasn't the seat on the back: a great error perpetrated for a lot of years by ERTL. To complete this comparison, I can only say that the new General Lee is a MUST for every Dukes of Hazzard's fan. So, the good news is the new model is too perfect... the bad news is the old model, since today, will be considered only a toy!!

A new comparison!

Finally, after the first comparison executed in November 2007 with "Herbie", today I want to propose you an another comparison, this time between the old "General Lee" produced by ERTL (into its "American Muscle" series) and the new "General Lee" produced by RC2/ERTL (into its "Authentics" Series). I hope you will appreciate it!
